Holes

The last Monday of August was our last beach day of the summer. We spent it just south of the Santa Monica pier and with a bunch of friends. Stacey came with her three kids (ages 6-13?) and kid's friend, Tomoe came with her two boys that are the same age as mine and Stacey's friend Belinda came with her two girls (ages- around 12 and 13). We made a nice large and friendly group. We set up pretty close to the water so we wouldn't have to chase very far after the little ones.

The little ones played and splashed in the shallow areas and dug in the sand. The water was very calm that day, which was disappointing to the boogyboarders and surfers in our group. The older kids boogy-boarded the few times the waves got high enough and dug big holes in the sand.

It's hard to see in this picture, the girl in the yellow shirt is standing up in the hole, but is bending over to dig out more sand. The little boys were very anxiously awaiting the moment when they were told they could get into the hole. Poor Lilah had started to dig it so she could have her own space to read and hang out. But she was very kind it letting the little kids have it when she was done. She promptly moved on to dig another one for herself.

There were at least 3 giant holes dug and enjoyed during our 6 hour stay. The last was the deepest and most fun! It was getting late and the ones all sat down in it and were giggling and chillin'. They didn't notice the tide coming in, but I did and I have to say I just sat back and waited for the fun to happen. I did try to get my camera out of the case in time to get a picture or video clip, but didn't make it :(

As I was pulling my camera out of its case, a wave came over the edge and poured over Samuel, Adam, and Bailey's heads! Oh, the looks on their faces! Too funny! Once they recovered from the shock, they squealed and enjoyed what was left of the hole for as long as it lasted.
