Adam decided he wanted a Star Wars theme, and I was grateful. Samuel's last birthday was the same theme and it was pretty easy for me to figure out what to do for this one. This party was much lower key and I gave myself more time to prepare.
Practicing his pose.
We had the black backdrop with glow in the dark stars again, blow-up lightsabers (very soft so no damage is done during battle), games, pinata and an ice cream cake. All in all, it was a success!
First, we ate all the lunch (pizza, pasta salad, fruit, fruit dip, and drinks) and waited for everyone to arrive. Then we started in on the games.
We started with musical chairs with a twist. I put pictures of Star Wars characters on the back of the chairs and then when the music stopped, I drew a matching picture from a hat. The one with the matching picture won and got to be the next to pick a little prize (cheap party favors). This kept anyone from crying that they were "losing" and they had something to play with while the rest of the game finished.

Next, we got out some energy and finally got to use the lightsabers in a balloon balance game. I was going to have the one that kept it up the longest go first in the next game, but dexterity like that isn't really developed at this age:) So, when they got bored with that, we just moved on to Destroying the Death Star.

The kids threw water balloons at some chalk drawings we did, until the "Death Star was destroyed!" - basically, until the water balloons washed away the picture. The loved it! Their aim wasn't that great, but we used up all our ammunition and got our toes wet.
Last of the games was the pinata. This one held up much better than our last one. All of the kids got to whack it several times before it gave out. Samuel did the honors of really bashing it at the end so the candy would spill.

Once we caught our breath and sampled our goodies, we sat down to watch Adam open his presents. He is so grateful and excited about all of his new toys! Thank you, everyone!
Adam and Grace
Last of all, we pulled out the ice cream cake, sang "Happy Birthday" and dug in. It was delicious! And all Adam's idea! I have no idea where he found out about ice cream cake.
Baskin Robbins didn't have a Star Wars theme top, but they had Adam's other favorite- Buzz Lightyear!
You know your kids had fun when they ask to "do it again next week, please!"

Oohh now I have lots of good ideas for Dallin's upcoming bash, thanks! I am so not creative enough to come up with that. I love the musical chairs, no loser game, great plan.
You are amazing! You did it again! Such great ideas! I also dig the "happy birthday" harmony by Aaron.
The kids had such a fabulous time--thanks so much for having us!! You did a great job!!
Cool party April. Will you plan mine if I want a Star Wars theme?
