Tortoise!

After music class today, we went with our friends up to Eaton Canyon Park and did a mini-hike. We were hoping to find some water in which to float Michael's new sailboats, but there hasn't been much rain lately and the river was completely dry. So we looked around at the flowers, played in the dirt a little and then went back to the Nature Center.

Lots of cool things to look at in there and one of the caretakers brought out a gopher snake for people to look at. Adam was quite content to view it from a distance :) We eventually wandered out to the enclosed patio and had lunch.

That's where we met the lady below. Her name is Clementine and she's a desert tortoise. The boys were fascinated and our little friend K tried to step on her to test her sturdiness :P

While K was busy eating his lunch, Michael and Adam slowly made their way closer to the tortoise. They tried not to get in the way of her lunch, but their curiosity was difficult to contain.

They contented themselves with lightly stroking her with one finger (good boys!) and laughing when she finally dug in and started to eat.

That's really cool! My kids would have loved that too!
