The first one we visited was about old Western movies. They have a great collection of costumes, props, posters, etc. Lots of fun things to look at and study. In one corner they had a blue screen set up, with camera and a running adventure track. Kids could get in the small saddle strategically placed in front of the screen and watch themselves on the TV set up to show them riding away from the large gang of bad guys. The boys (not so patiently) waited their turns and loved being in the middle of the action. They are such hams!
The next exhibit we saw was "Sparkle and Twang: Marty Stuart's American Musical Odyssey". It was dedicated to American Country music. Lots of costumes of famous stars, some of their instruments, personal letters, etc. There was also a life-sized dressing room (with costumes!) and an interactive performing stage. To see more about it click here.
Very kid friendly and here are my little singers. Adam gave a great rendition of the ABC's and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. Samuel actually tried to follow along with the old country songs being played on the TVs above him. It was absolutely ADORABLE!
Next was the Family Discovery Center. We stepped back in time to the home of the See family, an American Chinese family in the 1930's. This exhibit displays items from their antique store, restaurant and home. This is one of the best and coolest exhibits we've ever seen. There was a restaurant area with table, chairs, kitchen, and cash register. The boys loved "serving" me the pretend food and drinks.
Adam's favorite part was the See's family home kitchen. The had an antique stove and fridge, plastic food and some pans to add to the fun.
The "antique store" area had some wonderful pieces and more costumes for the kids to dress up. There were some bigger kids there that were hogging all costumes. Adam eventually got a hold of a hat, but I missed getting a picture.
This was Samuel's favorite part of the gallery. He played with the Tinker Toys and Lincoln Logs in the See's living room for most of our time there.
We eventually made our way outside to the stage coach area. The boys loved it and Adam asked where the horses were so we could "get going".
There was this pretty, little waterfall that flowed into this pond. Samuel decided he was now going to be camera shy and kept dodging when I tried to take a picture.
