The first Tuesday of the month is a free day for lots of museums and play area in the Los Angeles area. So we started out our day by going to the Free Family Movie Festival (sponsored by Regal Cinemas) and we saw The Tale of Despereaux, a great kids book turned animated movie. It was good!

It had a good message about, "bravery, honor and honesty". It might be a bit scary for more sensitive children though. My boys thought parts were a bit intense and they're not usually scared.
After the movie, we went to Target and bought the boys' school supplies for the new school year. Supplies are super cheap this time of year and I stock up to last us until next year. The boys immediately opened some of them up as soon as we got home and started drawing and writing and getting back into the mood for school. I certainly didn't discourage that!
Here the boys are making their own bugs out of various plastic parts. They played with these for 45 minutes. Bug Legos!
Later that afternoon was the free time at Kids Space Museum. It's a lot like the Children's Museum in Salem, but better! There is lots of hands on things for kids to move and play with and explore. There are several enclosed climbing towers, and one is designed like an ant hill. There is even a maze part that starts "underground" (on the first floor) and the kids come up through a hole on the next floor up.
We finished up our day at the rock climbing wall. Samuel had been wearing his new water clogs, but they had given him blisters and he refused to wear them the last hour we were there. He managed (I don't know how) to climb the wall a couple of times and ring the bell at the top. He was very proud of himself and declared that we need a wall like that on our patio :)
Adam did his best, but couldn't get to the top without my help and eventually wandered off to the outside pond and waterwheel. A very pretty and cool area with tadpoles, fish and other things kids like.
Closing time was 8 pm and we stayed until the end. It was our first time there and we loved it! We didn't get around to doing everything and the boys excitedly planned what they would do the next time :)
It was a great day and we all went home and the boys collapsed into bed. Any day that tires my boys out enough that they go right to bed, is a good day!
