Imaginary Friends

Since this is the closest thing to a journal that I'm doing right now, I'm also going to start documenting some of the cute things my boys have done in the past. One of my favorite things my boys have done is have imaginary friends. These friends showed up when the boys were 3-4 years old.

Samuel's friend was a blue bedbug (I have no idea why) with seven legs and lived in outer space. The planet he originated from occasionally varied, but Mars was a favorite. Buggie, as he was called, would make frequent trips to visit and always had fun ideas. One morning, I was woken up by Samuel and he announced it was Buggie's 7th birthday. So, we made a birthday cake and sang "Happy Birthday" to Buggie (sitting in a vacant chair) and Samuel gave him one of his Matchbox cars for a present. Samuel liked the experience so much, that Buggie frequently had a birthday. When I asked Samuel how Buggie could have so many birthdays so quickly, he replied, "Time is different in space, Mom."

Here he is (age 4) with the cake we made for Buggie.

Adam's friend is a little boy named Adam Victor. Only he pronounces it "Adam Bictor". Adam Victor doesn't make as many appearances as Buggie did, but he's pretty funny too. Any time Adam does something he really shouldn't, (like draw on the wall with markers, throw a basketball at the piano, etc.) then it was Adam Victor's idea. Usually, Adam just tells us about his friend and how Adam Victor lives far away over the mountains, but he's a funny guy that tells Adam a lot of jokes.

My funny boy.

Wow. You're a nice mom to make multiple birthday cakes for the invisible friend! I do love the way young kids blur the line between imagination and reality. Katy's invisible friend is called Sasha. :)
