"Gonna Buy Me A Mercury..."

Well, our old Lumina is pretty much dead. We're trying to find a parts/scrap place that will give us some money for it. Poor thing, it has lasted almost 200,000 miles and 14 years and really did it's job. It's been nice to be able to go through grad school without any car payments.

This is what we got to replace it.

It's a '96 Mercury Sable with 93,000 miles and it's in excellent condition. We had to get something that would fit our long legs. We tried test driving Hondas, Nissans, Mitsubishis, and other smaller cars. Not comfortable! Comfort is a must when you plan on taking several very long road trips each year to visit family. But we didn't want a SUV or a van gas guzzler. We also had to have something cheap, because we still didn't want to have car payments when we have student loan payments about to start.

So, it's nothing too fancy, but it suits us and we're satisfied :)

You guys are so smart! Well, everyone knows that already. We try to buy cars a little older with low miles too. Our best find ever was a 92 subaru legacy with only 42K miles.

Wow - the Lumina lasted ALL this time? Good for you for coaxing it along for so long!

Good for you April. We do not like having car payments as well. It drains the budget and is not very sensible right out of school =-)
