We joined hoards of other people lining the boulevard and staked out our spot at 10:30am the day before. We had a group of friends join us to help hold our spot and we had a great time! In the evening, we had dinner of sloppy joes (thanks Danielle!) and the boys played with trains until their bedtime.
I took the boys home to bed and Aaron, Ben and Kwynn alternated by Danielle, kept watch on the street. Poor Aaron's body gave out for a bit around 5:30am and he came home for a two-hour nap. The kids and I left our house around 7ish and Aaron rejoined the group by 8am. The parade got to our area at 8:40 and it was fantastic! This is one of the best parades in the world and it's so much better in person than what you see on TV!
Here we are moments before the parade started. Aaron was one very tired guy.
We had a total of around 20 people in our group. Us, friends and relatives of friends and we had a good time! Lots of snacks and comments trying to figure out who all the famous people were since we couldn't hear the commentary.
The boys loved it and this is Samuel's reaction to the first float, which was a giant 3 story robot from Honda. He thought it was "sooo coool! Wow!" There were some AMAZING floats and they're even more beautiful up close. Unfortunately, I didn't get any decent pictures of them :(
Adam liked some of the floats too, but his favorite parts were the marching bands. He would totally be grooving while they marched past. What could be better for a 3 year old boy than people in bright costumes making lots of noisy music?
After the parade, the streets cleared fairly quickly and we all went home and took naps. Even those of us who didn't stay out all night :P
